Markus is a student at Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany), where he is currently finishing his master's degree in "Ethics - Economics, Law & Politics". He holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Regensburg (Germany). Markus lives in Mindanao, Philippines, where he works as technical advisor for the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD). This also gives him the opportunity to conduct field research for his masteral thesis which deals with the trade in small arms and light weapons (SALW), and its impact on socio-economic and human development of affected societies, their stability and on peace processes. He recently completed an internship at the South-South Network for Non-State Armed Group Engagement (SSN) in the Philippines. Markus' fields of interest cover terrorism & counter-terrorism, SALW trade and its social impact, non-state armed groups, war & armed violence, peace process & peace keeping, as well as human rights & sustainable development. He has a keen interest in philosophy in general, and applied ethics in particular.
He spends his free time travelling, hiking, reading or chilling at one of his favourite bars.
